Café Don Senel is a small family business formed by the founders Senel Campos and Maria Eugenia Jimenez, together with their children Evelyn, Gredy and his wife Zaira, Lisseth and her husband Julio, Senel's grandchildren Andrew, Ximena, Allan and his wife Cinthia. At harvest time they all help with coffee collection and processing.
All of their lots are in a property named La Toboba which is a 8 hectare farm. They have many different varieties of coffee, such as Red Obatá, Marsellesa, Red Catuai, Villa Sarchi, Sarchimor, Catigua MG2, Hybrid H3, Etiope 47, Etiope 61, San Roque, and Geisha. To preserve the soils and the quality in the farm and obtain a better maturation, Allan told us they use Guaba, Jocote, Anona, Higuerilla, Poro trees to protect the coffee from the sun when necessary. Currently, the use of herbicides has been reduced by 85%, making coffee farming more friendly to the planet. They started a process of fumigation and pest control based on natural microorganisms known as Bioles. In Don Senel mill, they have tried to incorporate more innovative practices year after year that can be beneficial and allow them to maintain consistent quality in the cup.
