For over 30 years the Edema family has been processing exceptional coffees in Guji and Shakiso. Their number one placement for shed coffee at the 2019 AFCA Taste of Harvest solidified their reputation in regard to the quality that comes out of the Tebe Burka Washing Station. Tebe Burka in the local language means "fertile land" and expresses the core of in situ quality inherent of the best coffees from Ethiopia: no need for fertilizer, wonderful cherries from wild growth, and exceptional terroir.
The complexity of the Tebe Burka resounds in the balance of floral, citrus, and stone fruit characteristics. On the nose the florals and citrus dance with an effervescent quality that accentuates the crispness and specificity of the quality. In the cup itself, what starts out as jasmine with a balanced but delicate body builds as it cools into a melange of deeper sweet stone fruits of sweet plum and the juiciness of black currant. The dynamic of this coffee is beautifully expressed as a full experience as it starts high and builds in character through the cup.
