Cauca is a critically unique region in Colombia, as many efforts have been made to replace production of Coca with coffee trees. With this shift, changes in the structure of these communities have strengthened their value in the global market. The participation of women and young people have increased, new groups have emerged, and a democratic system has developed.rOur importer’s access to this farm (and historically difficult-to-access region) is thanks in part to Comité de Cauca, a group with a mission to strengthen the welfare of coffee growers. Their main initiative is to strengthen the relationship between coffee grower and buyer, by understanding the demand for quality coffee and providing explicit details about the communities and producers we purchase from.
El Mirador is produced by Arnoldo Castro. In 2016, he participated in department wide contest and helped facilitate sales of specialty microlots. El Mirador differentiates itself from other Colombian offerings with its perfectly balanced sweetness and fruit forward characteristics. Starting with inviting aromas of honeycomb and white peach, the coffee seamlessly moves into notes of ripe red plum, bing cherry, with a dark chocolate bar finish.
